We take great pleasure in announcing the imminent release of a work by Héllena Micy ‘The Parthenon Marbles (bring them back)’ in three days time. Here are just a few studio shots taken during the recording. Watch this space for the release on Monday 20 June, 20019. Héllena was born and raised in the shadow of the Mountain of the Gods, Olympus, in Greece. She is a singer, songwriter, director and composer. Her creations regularly marry the Eastern/Western worldThe present restoration project began in 1983 On the eastern side the projects included the restoration of the two corners of the entablature and the pediment, the transfer of the original sculptures to the new Akropolis Museum and the replacement of some with exact copies on the monument (images 1-2). During the works in the pronaos, the monument’s three northern columns were partially restored with the use of material whose original position has been identified, while the fourth and fifth columns were fully restored. The columns were complemented with new marble and since 2015 the final carving of their flutes has been taking place (images 3-4). The structural restoration of the northern colonnade of the Parthenon gave the possibility to correct misplacements of previous intervention. Eight central columns and the corresponding entablature have been restored. The new intervention of 2001-2009 has revived the Parthenon’s original form, through the placement of ancient members and titanium at internal reinforcements and clamps (image 5). The aim of the restoration of the cello’s long walls (from 2011 on) aims to define the plan of the cella by incorporating the attributed scattered ancient stones. After the complection of the interventions the two walls will appear to mach their original form - as they would have been just after the 1687 explosion (image 6). The presence of the #ParthenonSculpture at the foot of the #Parthenon, is powerful. Seeing this display also reminded us of the aesthetic energy the intact Parthenon must have emitted. Only here in the Acropolis Museum, can these connection be readily made. We wasted no time in capturing a few moments of the display on an iPhone. Apologies for the poor quality images.This first image is a section of the Parthenon Frieze in the Acropolis Museum. It is part of a group that is being laser cleaned. Finally, this technology allows accumulated dust of the ages to be removed without destroying the texture of the marble surface. If you look carefully you’ll see some holes in the horse’s mane and necks. These were for securing the bridles that were attached to these magnificently carved creatures. The second image is from the British Museum. This is part of the Parthenon’s frieze that Elgin’s team removed. Notice how the stone has been scrubbed clean. This caused damage to the surface. The British Museum has not been a wise curator of these priceless examples of Greek cultural heritage.
